Counterfeit booster packs are increasingly common. Use these checks before buying any sealed product you are uncertain about. If the pack is already in your hands and you may need a refund, inspect and photograph it before opening.

Booster Pack Checks

  • Exact product match: Compare against the same set, language, region, and pack art. Booster artwork can vary within one set, so do not compare a different artwork variant as if it were identical.
  • Wrapper quality: Authentic packs have crisp, high-quality printing with vibrant colors. Fakes often look dull, oversaturated, blurry, or shifted toward the wrong color.
  • Seal quality: Check the crimped edges at the top and bottom. Authentic seals are clean and consistent, not wavy, melted, split, or glued unevenly.
  • Barcode and product codes: Compare against known authentic packs from the same product. Fakes may have incorrect, missing, or blurry barcodes and product codes.

General Sealed Product Red Flags

Wrapper and Printing

  • Colors should be vibrant and match official product images.
  • Text should be sharp with no blurring or pixelation.
  • Holographic elements (if present) should have smooth, consistent patterns.
  • No spelling errors on packaging.
  • Logos, energy symbols, age ratings, copyright lines, and legal text should match authentic packaging for that region.

Seals and Crimps

  • Factory seals should be clean and uniform.
  • Look for signs of resealing: uneven crimps, glue residue, or wrinkles.
  • The wrapper should fit snugly around the cards without excessive looseness.
  • Tear notches should look clean and factory-cut. Jagged, oversized, or oddly placed notches are suspicious when they do not match authentic packs from the same set.

Weight and Feel

  • Packs from the same product should feel consistent in thickness and stiffness.
  • The wrapper material should feel correct for the product: not too thin, too stiff, overly waxy, or plasticky.
  • Cards inside should not rattle excessively or feel loose inside a baggy wrapper.
  • Do not rely on weight alone. Normal insert cards, code cards, reverse holos, and packaging variation can change pack weight. Treat weight as supporting evidence, not a verdict.

Where Fake Sealed Product Appears

  • Third-party marketplace sellers with no reviews or new accounts.
  • Prices significantly below market value.
  • Bulk lots or "mystery" bundles.
  • Overseas sellers shipping products that should be region-locked.
  • Listings that use only stock photos for expensive sealed product.
  • Sellers who refuse clear photos of the front, back, top crimp, bottom crimp, barcode, and product code.

When in doubt, purchase sealed product from authorized retailers or established sellers with strong feedback histories.
